AQUADEVBUS PROJECT
Aquaculture without borders: when Nordic countries meet East Africa
AQUADEVBUS brings together two Kenyan universities (Great Lakes University of Kisumu and Rongo University), a Kenyan research institution (Kenya Marine and Fisheries Research Institute), and three Scandinavian partners (UiT, Turku University of Applied Sciences and Peimarin Koulutuskuntayhtyma – Livia- in Finland). The project is funded by the Erasmus + programme ERASMUS-EDU-2023-CBHE (Capacity building in the field of higher education), has a total budget of 0.8 million EURO and will run for three years (2023-2026).

CAPABILITY STATEMENT
Great Lakes University of Kisumu specializes in health systems capacity building, research and community health and development. GLUK has engaged in health systems capacity building and research activities for over three decades within Africa and beyond focusing on improving the performance of the health system through evidence based decision making, planning and action. This has been undertaken in partnership with international, regional and national renowned health systems specialists. A key element has been the development of community, household based information system as a diagnostic tool for identification of health problems to guide timely decisions and action. The CRI is also capable of research on agriculture and education in addition to health. The University is particularly skilled in the following areas:
Public Health
To provide quality public health research, and service delivery that embodies the aspirations of the Kenyan people and global community.
Health Promotion
Health promotion is very relevant today hence GLUK aims at enhancing research that focuses on promoting health at the community and public level
Community Health
Conduct and support research at the community level to improve livelihoods in the community and beyond with help of other stakeholders
Health Systems
Health Systems research and strengthening is one of the core mandates of the centre of research and innovation hence more focus is placed here.
Food Security
To push quality research to provide means of ensuring there is food security in the community and the country at large
Environmental Health
We put a lot of emphasis on environmental health, water and sanitation hygiene hence it forms a strong basis of our research activities.
